Aims

To provide a comfortable and caring service in which users can enjoy the company of others in a friendly and stimulating environment.

Provision

Shipley and Bingley Voluntary Services provides social day care for elderly people who may otherwise be isolated or have very little contact with other people.
The Day Care provision at Cardigan House takes place on a Monday and Thursday between 10am and 3.30pm and offers a warm and welcoming environment to all.
There is provision available for 20 clients plus volunteers on both days.
Tea and toast are provided on arrival at the centre with further refreshments throughout the morning. At lunch time a two course hot, freshly cooked meal is provided followed with tea or juice.
Afternoon tea and cakes are also provided following the afternoon's activities.

Activities

Users of the centre are encouraged to join in with games and activities that are organised by the Day Care supervisor and her assistant. These include board games, craft work and dominoes in the morning plus a planned programme of entertainment - slide show presentations from guest speakers, musical and comedy, quizzes to stretch the mind, bingo and more recently physical activities in the form of chair exercises delivered by a professional fitness trainer. The aim of our programme is to offer a variety of activities of which some, if not all, will appeal to most people.

Transport

If required, transport can be provided for clients in two specially adapted mini buses, other clients may prefer to use a taxi or be brought in by a carer.

Volunteers

We would not be able to offer such a comprehensive service to the Day Care users if it were not for the dedication of our volunteers. They cannot be praised too highly for their commitment to the users and the aims of the centre.
